Staff Spotlight: Missy Graf
Pausing for a pic with the Bearcat during UC’s Bearcat Welcome event.
When did you start at UC Blue Ash and what are your responsibilities?
Missy with her son Jake and daughter Aubrey at UC’s Homecoming last year.
I started at UCBA in August of 2019. I am a Success Coach and I also adjunct; I’m currently teaching an exploratory course. As a Success Coach, I work to provide wrap around services for my students, supporting them in all areas including academics, financial, and social adjustments in college. I like to tell my students I am their “person”, and I will continue to be their “person” as long as they’d like while attending UC. I am their point person – a place to ask questions, seek help, find support, and just to know they have someone in their corner to help them when they need it.
What is your favorite thing about working or teaching at UC Blue Ash?
I love the community here at UCBA. I value the hard work that everyone puts into doing what’s best for our students. I most enjoy making lifelong connections with students, knowing that I am helping them build their future and find success in their lives. I learn and gain just as much from my students as I hope they gain from me.
Is there a current/recent book or podcast you’re enjoying?
I just finished reading Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson. My favorite podcast of all time is Serial Season One – The Case of Adnan Syed. I taught this in my high school English class and I still connect with past students about it!
What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?
As a big Reds fan, Missy had to stop for a photo with Mr. Red.
I love anything Disney, and it is my family’s favorite vacation destination. I love to cook, grow my vegetable garden, I’m an avid sports fan – I love Reds baseball and Bearcat baseball and basketball.
What is one fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?
I was a high school English teacher for 19 years before coming to UCBA. I now have the pleasure of working with one of my former students here on campus. While yes, that makes me feel a bit old, it is one of the greatest gifts a teacher can have – seeing her students grow up and make a career for themselves.
Other things: I have two children (Jake and Audrey) who are both Bearcats living in Clifton.
