When did you start at UC Blue Ash and what are your current responsibilities?

I started working in our Science Learning Lab here in January 2024. The SLL is a team of four tutors providing academic support to students taking Biology and Chemistry courses. My focus is on the biology side, so I'm typically working with students taking Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and regular old Bio. We answer questions, clarify concepts, help identify structures on lab models, quiz students, and just generally do our best to fill in any knowledge or skill gaps.

What is your favorite thing about working or teaching at UC Blue Ash?

Many students come to us saying that they've never had to study or don't know how to study. It's really rewarding to help them craft a system that works for their brain and schedule and then watch them knock it out of the park on an exam. I also really love being around such a diverse group of students every day and watching them make connections in the room. Oftentimes a study group becomes a close set of friends and a trusted support system for one another.

Is there a current/recent book or podcast you’re enjoying?

Dear Hank and John is a weekly staple at our house. It's hosted by Hank and John Green (of YouTube/YA fiction fame) and it's mostly a write-in advice show, but all of the advice is "dubious". Lots of laughs! Since it's spooky season right now, I'll also recommend Old Gods of Appalachia. It's a horror anthology podcast. I don't usually like scary stuff, but the storytelling is top notch.

What kind of hobbies or activities do you pursue outside of work?

Nothing too exciting - baking, cooking, reading, home projects, gardening, hiking. I'm definitely a homebody but also identify as "outsidey" (but not outdoorsy, I need a bed and A/C at the end of the day).

Is there a fun or interesting fact you would like to share about yourself?

I grew up playing the oboe and alto saxophone and was in the Athletic Band at Ohio State. I marched Script Ohio on Ice four times and never fell despite being an incredible klutz.
