Study Abroad 2026
British Study Abroad Program
Harlaxton Manor
England, India, and Empire
Join us for an amazing journey through the intertwined histories of England and India in the "England, India, and Empire" study abroad program. This immersive learning experience is designed to introduce you to literary and cinematic representations of colonialism and cultural exchange between these two nations as you experience the legacy of colonialism firsthand in England.
Traditional academic coursework will take place at Harlaxton College, a stately 19th-century manor house nestled in the lush, green countryside. There, you will analyze literary texts and films reflecting the complexities of colonialism, identity, and cultural diversity. It will serve as home base, where you will live, study, and socialize with your classmates. From there, you will embark on travel across England as you gain a deeper understanding of the enduring impact of British imperialism on Indian culture and India’s reciprocal influences on England.
The cultural impact of the United Kingdom’s complex relationship with India is visible throughout England, and in this program, you will witness examples of it in bustling London, historic Cambridge, vibrant Leicester, and in the coastal beauty of Brighton and the Isle of Wight. Excursions to sites like the Center for South-Asian Studies in Cambridge, the BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Leicester, and the Osborne House on the Isle of Wight will transport you back in time as you explore the rich tapestry of cultural influences that have shaped both nations.
Don't miss this opportunity to broaden your horizons, challenge your perspectives, and embark on a transformative educational adventure. Join us in uncovering the legacy of colonialism and cultural exchange in the heart of England.
