Helping Hands on Campus

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College seeks to ensure that all students can actively and freely participate in all aspects of college life, even if they suffer with a disability; which can make transitioning into college life more challenging.

The Accessibility Resources (AR) office located inside Muntz Hall, Room 112L at UC Blue Ash College provides students with any type of disability (visual, hearing, physical, psychological, cognitive, learning ADD, medical condition, etc.) with the appropriate accommodations while participating in college courses, programs and activities.

“In addition to the standard extra time on tests/quizzes in a quiet environment, Accessibility Resources provides accessible tools, furniture and facilities accommodations,” says Director of Accessibility Resources at UC Blue Ash, Pamela Goines.

As director, Goines’ responsibility is to proactively work to provide accommodations to students with a disability and to study the processes, systems and facilities at the college to identify barriers to access and to work with the AR advisory board to enhance the services the office provides.

“Additionally, my role is to do committee work on university-wide initiatives to ensure the needs of people with a disability are considered and included as we set university-wide policies,” says Goines.

Although access to services from the AR is reserved for students with a documented disability, generalized accommodations are made available to benefit all students such as quiet rooms for testing and study resources.

There are approximately 250-300 students who use the AR office each semester; with ADD/ADHD being the most common reason students will seek assistance.

Registering is as easy as one, two, three.

“Professors refer/often walk the students down to our office to introduce them to our services and to get the accommodation process started,” says Goines.

Students can request accommodations through the links and forms available on the Accessibility Resources website

There are just three easy steps to follow:

1. Submit documentation of your disability to ucbadso@ucmail.uc.edu or mail it to UCBA, Muntz 112L, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236.
2. Download and complete the Student Self Report form, found on the Accessibility Resources webpage.
3. Call Accessibility Resources at 513-745-5670 to schedule an intake appointment.

Staff and faculty can also receive support from the AR office by going through Human Resources.
