UC Appoints Robin Lightner as Dean of UC Blue Ash College

Robin Lightner, PhD, has been appointed to serve as the next dean of the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College. She will officially become dean on June 15, 2018, pending approval of the University’s Board of Trustees.

Lightner has served as interim dean of the college for the past year after the previous dean, Cady Short-Thompson, left for Hope College. Lightner is a tenured professor of psychology and has been a faculty leader at UC Blue Ash since joining the college in 2001. Prior to becoming interim dean, she served for one year as associate dean of academic affairs at the college. Lightner has also served as Chair of the Behavioral Science Department, was co-leader of the UC Blue Ash Learning and Teaching Center, and is a member of UC’s Academy of Fellows for Teaching and Learning. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Northern Kentucky University and her master’s and PhD from the University of Kentucky.

“The teaching and leadership positions Robin has held throughout her career at UC Blue Ash College provide a strong foundation to serve as dean of the college,” says Kristi A. Nelson, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Cincinnati. “I am confident she will continue to drive the positive momentum and scholarly mission of UC Blue Ash.”

The college just finished celebrating its 50th Anniversary. It offers nearly 50 academic degree programs and has an enrollment of just under 5,000 students, marking an increase of nearly 1,000 students over the past decade. UC Blue Ash is expanding its campus to keep up with the growth. The newly constructed Progress Hall opened in 2017 and a major renovation to Muntz Hall that began last summer will add new classrooms, accommodate the latest classroom technology, and create more study areas for students.

“I am proud of all that we do at UC Blue Ash to live our mission, challenge and inspire our students, and provide a great place to learn, teach and work,” says Lightner. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve as dean and to continue to be part of the special UC community we have created on our campus.”

Lightner’s appointment follows a national search that began in early 2018. It was led by the UC Provost Office and chaired by Robert Probst, Dean of the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
