UC Blue Ash Professor Leads International Organization


A UC Blue Ash College professor is the new president of an international organization with more than 1,000 members. Jennifer Wells, a licensed veterinarian and chair of the Veterinary Technology Department at UC Blue Ash, was recently installed as the president of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE).

The organization is dedicated to promoting quality professional education for veterinary technician students.  Most of the members are veterinarians or veterinary technicians on staff at colleges and universities around the world.

Wells has been a member of the AVTE since 2002, began serving on the board four years ago, and was selected by her fellow members to become the president-elect in 2013.  She served a two-year term in that role before officially becoming president of the organization this summer.  Her term will run through July 2017.

“This is a great opportunity to serve my colleagues and give back to the veterinary technician industry,” says Wells. “There is no other organization that I’ve been a part of where everyone is so committed to working together for a common cause.”

As president, Wells is responsible for developing strategic plans that will grow the organization, communicating important information to members, and considering changes or updates to AVTE bylaws.

The professor and veterinarian has been chair of the Veterinary Technology Department at UC Blue Ash since 2008.  She has been instrumental in leading curriculum development that has helped graduates score much higher than the national average on the Veterinary Technician National Examination. also named Wells one of the Top 15 Veterinary Technology Professors in the U.S. in 2013.
