Welcome to the Math Awareness Week page at Raymond Walters College! This year's theme is "Math and the Internet". In honor of this event, the Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science Department is holding its 2nd annual Math Awareness Week contest, our "Road Rally on the Information SuperHighway", an Internet scavenger hunt. The contest will run from Monday, April 21 through Friday, May 2, 1997.
During Math Awareness Week, we honor the contributions of mathematicians toward the creation and development of the Internet. This enormous communication system - whose operation rests on mathematics - stands today as one of the most visible fruits of a growing technological society.
Modern computing can be said to have begun as the fanciful visions of creative mathematicians. Whether they realize it or not, those who "surf" the web or merely tap our e-mail do so on the shoulders of mathematical giants. To see how Math Awareness Week is being observed around the country (and the world!), visit the national Math Awareness Week site.

It's easy! Search the Internet for the answers to the questions at the link below. Then fill in the blanks and simply submit the on-line form! You will receive a point for each correct answer AND a point for the URL where you found the correct answer. If you prefer to print out the form, drop your completed form in the entry box marked "MAW" in the Math Office, on the third floor in Room 325. Submit the form no later than 3pm EST on Friday, May 2, 1997. Make sure you fill out the "Personal Information" portion of the form, so we can contact you, the winner!!

Anyone may enter, but only members of the RWC community, with the exception of MPCS department faculty and staff, are eligible to win prizes. You may enter as many times as you like. The person who submits the entry with the most points will be awarded the Grand Prize! In the event of a tie, a random drawing will be held to select a winner. Several prizes will be awarded to runners-up as well. Following the conclusion of the contest, a list of winners, including an Honorable Mention section for people outside the RWC community, will be displayed on this site.
