on

The next edition in the UC Blue Ash College Entrepreneur Speaker Series (ESS) will feature social entrepreneurs who are using their expertise to make a difference, while also changing the landscape of philanthropy in our region.

Entrepreneurship with a Mission is free and open to everyone. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 21 from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. in Muntz Auditorium on the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College campus. It will be followed by a free reception where attendees can meet the guests.

The featured guests will be:

  • Joel Bokelman, president of ChangingGears. Joel gave up a career in engineering to pursue his dream of helping others. His organization provides affordable vehicles for people who are working their way out of poverty.
  • Lauren LaCerda Merten, executive director of Social Venture Partners. The international network of 3,500 partners invests time, talent and grant money in innovative ways to strengthen local non-profits.
  • Craig Young, founder and executive director of Inspiring Service. Craig has nearly four decades of success in creating technology products and companies. Today, he focuses on inspiring and celebrating volunteering, sustainability and compassion.

Kent Lutz, professor of business and economics at UC Blue Ash, hosts the event and interviews the guests about their experiences and advice they would offer others. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

“Being an entrepreneur is a mindset,” says Lutz. “Our guests are successful business leaders who are using their entrepreneurial skills to find ways to help others and meet a need in the community. It should be a fun and inspiring event.”

The speaker series was developed in 2014 by Lutz and features successful entrepreneurs from the region sharing helpful advice for anyone who is or may become interested in operating their own business. Past guests include Jeff Wyler of the Wyler Automotive Group; Buddy LaRosa, founder of LaRosa’s Pizza; Craig Kurz, owner of Honeybaked Ham; Patty Brisben, founder of Pure Romance; and Tony Maas, president of The J.T.M. Food Group.

The event is free but seating is limited.
