Registering early for her classes at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College just saved Raquelle Collins a little more than $3,000.
Collins is the winner of free tuition for the fall semester at the college after her name was drawn from a pool of 1,353 eligible students. The fall semester at UC began August 22 and runs through December 12.
The free tuition program is another way to encourage UC Blue Ash students to register early for the upcoming semester so they can get the classes they need and the schedule they prefer. Those who register by the designated deadline are automatically entered into a drawing to win the prize. Tuition at the college is $3,005 per semester for in-state, full-time students.
Collins says she couldn’t believe it at first when she received official notification from the college about her award, but then an email inviting her to meet with UC Blue Ash Dean, Cady Short-Thompson confirmed the news.
“When it finally sunk in I just felt a huge relief. I knew that I wouldn’t have to worry about financial aid this semester,” says Collins, who lives in Clifton and works part-time while pursuing her degree in electronic media communications.
“So many of our students have to juggle a variety of responsibilities while going to school full time and taking very challenging courses,” says Dean Short-Thompson. “It’s really rewarding to see how much the free tuition means to Raquelle as she pursues her degree and her goals.”
Collins is in her second year at UC Blue Ash and says she learned quickly about the value of registering early for classes. “I don’t think a lot of students realize how much it can impact their plans to graduate if they wait to register and aren’t able to get the classes they need and have to wait another semester.”
Getting the classes you need for your degree is always important; winning free tuition for the semester is pretty sweet too.
