Brand New: UC Navigators by Cory Woodruff,

Students from the Electronic Media Communications (eMedia) program at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College are the big winners in the 2016 Student Production Awards from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

This is the ninth consecutive year that UC Blue Ash eMedia students have been recognized by NATAS and the six category awards they captured are the most ever for the program. In fact, UC Blue Ash is the only two-year electronic media program represented among the winners and takes home the most Student Production Awards – 6 of the 18 total awards – among all of the colleges and universities that participated. This includes Ohio, Ohio State, Wright State, Western Kentucky, and Xavier universities.

This remarkable accomplishment comes as NATAS received a record number of entries from the colleges, universities, and high schools across the Ohio Valley Chapter’s four-state region, which covers Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.  The awards encompass all forms of electronic media, including news production, audio/video production, animation/graphics, photography, and writing. Experienced professionals in each of these fields judge the entries.

Aryn Fox, who graduated from the UC Blue Ash eMedia program this spring, received the coveted Student Production Award in multiple categories for her video, Devil’s Night.  She won in the Short Form – Fiction category and in three craft categories (Director, Editor, and Writing).

Brand New: UC Navigators by Cory Woodruff, another spring graduate from UC Blue Ash, won the Student Production Award in the Short Form – Non-Fiction category and in one craft category (Photographer). He and Fox also earned Honorable Mention Awards in five other categories.

“These awards earned by our students covered a wide range of craft categories, which continues to demonstrate the solid technical and practical strengths of our program,” says H. Michael Sanders, professor and chair of the UC Blue Ash eMedia program. “We are extremely proud of the impressive accomplishments of our students, especially when you consider that they were competing head-to-head with students in four-year degree programs across the region.”

The awards will be presented at the 52nd Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards Gala on August 6, 2016 at the Lawrenceburg Event Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Accompanying the student producers to the ceremony are their faculty advisors William Boyle, David Hartz, Dave Hubble, and H. Michael Sanders.

The Ohio Valley Chapter of NATAS is one of 20 regional chapters in the United States. It includes the television markets across Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.
