on

University of Cincinnati President, Santa Ono, is enhancing the different ways UC Blue Ash College makes it possible for students to succeed.

President Ono visited UC Blue Ash on January 19, 2016 to join Dean Cady Short-Thompson in meeting students, answering their questions, and providing updates on important news and events across the college and university. He also took the opportunity to announce that he is adding $30,000 to UC Blue Ash scholarship funds this year.

The college currently offers $80,000 in scholarships each year for qualified students. Continuing to grow the amount of scholarship resources available at UC Blue Ash is critical since so many bright students have to stop out or drop out due to financial hardship. The new pledge from the University will go into a general scholarship fund and will be used to create future opportunities for deserving students.

During the hour-long information session, known as Dish with the Dean, President Ono also gave out #HottestCollegeinAmerica t-shirts and scarves to students who asked questions. He and Dean Short-Thompson responded to approximately 20 questions that covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Details about plans for the new building at UC Blue Ash. – Groundbreaking this spring and construction should be complete in summer 2017. It covers 16,000 square feet and will primarily be used for classroom and office space.
  • Whether the new building will cause an increase in tuition at UC Blue Ash. – Tuition will not be affected. The college is paying for the building through funds that have already been saved.
  • Any plans to add more bachelor degree programs at UC Blue Ash. – The college currently offers two bachelor’s degrees and is exploring opportunities to add more, but no specific plans at this time.
  • Whether scholarships at UC Blue Ash transfer to the Clifton campus. – Some of them do, but it depends on the particular scholarship.
  • Recommendations for choosing the right major. – Try lots of things and look at others who have been successful in different careers. Academic advisors and the Career Center can be great resources.

Once the session was over, President Ono took the time to talk one-on-one with several students and pose with them for photos.
