UC Blue Ash College Launches Online Bachelor’s Program

on

August 12, 2015 – UC Blue Ash College, in partnership with the University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health, is launching its first online bachelor’s program this fall.

The online Bachelor in Radiation Science Technology (BRST) program will make it possible for students all over the nation, even the world, to earn their degree while learning and interacting with faculty electronically.

The online BRST is designed for students and working professionals who have earned their associate degree in a radiation science field and want to advance their education to pursue positions in leadership, management and education.

“We have offered hybrid courses that combine online and classroom learning for quite some time,” says Cady Short-Thompson, dean of UC Blue Ash College.  “We want to provide more courses and programs that are fully online and offer students the flexibility of learning from home, on their own schedule and from anywhere in the world, while maintaining our rigorous academic standards.”

Radiation science involves a wide range of professions in the medical imaging and radiation therapy fields. Some of the positions include Radiologic Technologist, MRI Technologist, and Radiation Therapist.

The online BRST is designed for students and working professionals who have earned their associate degree in a radiation science field and want to advance their education to pursue positions in leadership, management and education. The courses explore health care concepts in law, economics, research and communication, while also providing advance practice education in areas such as computed tomography (CT) and pathophysiology.

While the BRST program has been a part of the curriculum at UC Blue Ash for the past 11 years, the launch of the new, fully online version ties in with ongoing growth in the field.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the medical imaging and radiation sciences field will grow 26% by 2022. That equates to approximately 84,000 new jobs.

“As we see growth within medical imaging and radiology therapy, we are also seeing that more professionals want to take the next step in their career and they know that earning a bachelor’s degree will help them do that,” says Julie Gill, chair of the Allied Health Department at UC Blue Ash.
