Visit the land Down Under and experience an educational journey like no other! Through classes held at the centrally-located University of Sydney, you’ll learn how the US has impacted the development of Australia since 1788, and what Australians think about this complex shared history.

Course Description

HIST 2050 | Guns, Germs and Gems: Australia and the United States, 1788-2017
(Fulfills HP & DC requirements) 3 credit hours

This class will examine the histories of Australia and the USA, focusing on how the US has impacted the development of Australia since 1788 and what Australians think about this and their “special relationship” with the USA. The class includes guest lectures from experts in Aboriginal culture, Australian flora and fauna, and Australian-American strategic relationships.

On-site classes will be held at the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia.

  • Taronga Zoo

The program also includes at least one free weekend for students who want to pursue short-term independent travel.

Anticipated cost:

$3,800 (plus tuition)
Includes meals, lodging, transportation and excursions.
