Renovated Foreign Language Lab Offers New Resources for UC Blue Ash Students
November 21, 2013 – The newly renovated Foreign Language Lab at UC Blue Ash College features 29 new computers, a wide range of learning software, and other new resources that will benefit students and faculty. A special celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony marked the recent re-opening of the lab.
“This is a great new collaborative space where students can study with each other, their professors, or our tutors,” said Professor Deborah Page, Chair of the Foreign Languages Department at UC Blue Ash. She adds that the lab is available to all UC Blue Ash students, not just those who are taking a foreign language class.
Resources available through the Foreign Language Lab include integrated video camera computers with headsets for recording, Windows movie maker to create videos for sign language and speaking evaluations, voice recording software, virtual keyboard with language bar, specialized software for the languages taught, and free tutoring services.
Foreign languages taught at UC Blue Ash include French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Arabic. Sign Language is also part of the program. Professors in the department are not only experts in their foreign language, they have also experienced the culture of the particular country and have training in teaching a second language to students.
The Foreign Language Lab is an example of the free support services available to all students at UC Blue Ash. The college also offers a Writing Center, Science Learning Lab, and Math Lab.
